Tuesday is the sweetest day.
This week in Tuesdays with Dorie, Dolores of Chronicles in Culinary Curiosity chose Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream on page 434 of Dorie Greenspan's Baking: from my home to yours. Feel free to check out Dolores's site for the recipe and to see how she fared this week.
Mmmm, I love ice cream. This one was considerably easier than the classic french custard based ice creams with all the egg tempering and whatnot. Blueberries, cream, sour cream... what's not to like?
The base came together easily in the blender and sat in the fridge overnight to cool. The next day it went into the ice cream maker and 20 minutes later... voila!
I managed to find blueberries on sale and had lots left over for garnishing. The only way I would change this recipe is maybe to double it. It does not make as much as my regular ice cream recipes and did not fill my ice cream maker.
This ice cream, like most homemade ice cream, is dense and creamy and does well to sit out for a couple of minutes before serving. That is because it does not have all the extra air whipped into it like commercial ice creams.
This is a great recipe for anyone just getting into ice cream making as it is fairly simple and foolproof and, most importantly, delicious.
The family loved the ice cream and dispatched it fairly quickly. The sign of a successful Tuesday. Next week - Granola Grabbers!
