Armchair Novel Review - First Grave on the Right

First Grave on the Right
Darynda Jones
Hardcover, 320 pages

First Grave on the Right is the debut novel in a series about Charley Davidson, a sexy sarcastic P.I. and, um, grim reaper. Author Darynda Jones seamlessly marries procedural mystery with supernatural romance in a funny, fast paced novel that you won't be able to put down until, breathlessly, you reach the end.

Since she was born, Charley could see dead people. As a grim reaper, she can also help them cross over. Of course it's not always that easy, unfinished business sometimes keeps the dearly departed bound to the earth. Unfinished business like murder. As a P.I. and the daughter of a cop, Charley Davidson blazes forth in her brash and sometimes careless manner, often getting herself in harm's way, to help her uncle, also a cop, and her recently deceased charges solve the mystery of their deaths.
Weaving through the book is a dark and mysterious love affair with an intriguing entity that doesn't seem to be of this world, but then again isn't like any other being Charley has encountered.

The book is funny, exciting, sexy, and did I mention funny? Pure escapism, Darynda's first novel is the perfect antidote to whatever stresses are in your regular life. I can't wait to read #2, Second Grave on the Left.
